The FEI have recently implemented some changes to the FEI Horse registration and Passport/Recognition Card process which have been brought in with immediate effect. Any horses using what is considered a commercial prefix and not the breeding prefix listed on the passport from birth, will be charged at the commercial rate of £979 in addition to any FEI registration or passport charges. For further details see the example below:
NAME: ART MURPHY
BREEDER: J. Bloggs, Art Stud Ireland
FEI charge: Standard rate (due to the breeder prefix)
NAME: ART JAKE THE PEG
BREEDER: C. Parrot, The Old Farmhouse, Preston
FEI charge: Commercial rate (the horse was not bred at the ART Stud and instead the prefix added for commercial purposes by ART Stud before sale).
Q. I have a horse with a commercial prefix but don’t want to pay the commercial fee
A. The commercial prefix can be removed free of charge but must match the name on the passport (i.e. this requires updating too).
Eg. ART JAKE THE PEG could be altered to JAKE THE PEG and the FEI standard charge would apply.
Q. What documentation do I have to send to BE to complete an FEI Horse Registration or Passport/Recognition Card application?
A. For all new FEI registrations a copy of the following page of the passport is required:
- Name page
- A completed FEI Horse/Rider Registration form (downloaded from BE website).
For all FEI Passport/ Recognition Cards:
- Name Page
- Owner page
- Description & Diagram page
- Pedigree page
- A completed Passport/Recognition Card application form (downloaded from BE website)
